About Encounter Yoga
Encounter Yoga is based on the tradition of Hatha Yoga and takes an integrated, breath centred approach.
To share the practices of yoga that encourage health and well being, personal transformation and growth; enabling a better connection to our community beyond the practice space – that benefits all the people that we encounter.
Teacher Background - Anita Grantham
I went to my first yoga classes in the early 80’s, and after drifting away for a few years to raise my family, work and study. I eventually returned to yoga with a more whole hearted commitment in the 90's. Yoga is a lifestyle - a way of being, seeing and moving in the world. Yoga has been a beautiful gift, a blessing for me, as I have experienced the immense benefits of the practices, on every level - particularly in times of life's big challenges, such dealing with stress, illness and grief and loss.
I felt the profound benefits that yoga offered, and wanted to deepen my practice, so in 2009/10 I began to study with Venkatesa Integral Yoga Academy of Australasia, obtaining a Yoga Teaching Diploma (500 hours), and consequently began to share yoga with others in 2011 - what a joy it h as been! I never stop learning and those I share yoga with are the biggest teachers.
Qualifying as a Thai Yoga Massage therapist in 2016, I also offer this wonderful complementary practice to yoga, that is a beautifully nourishing and meditative experience - for both the giver and receiver, with enormous health and wellness benefits, practiced with metta - loving kindness.
In 2017 I have continued my journey to deepen my practice and became a pre and post-natal yoga teacher - enabling me to share yoga with mums-to-be during that very special, nurturing time of pregnancy, and into early motherhood - making yoga more accessible and safe for those who benefit most from it.
As a yoga practitioner and teacher I continue my journey to learn, experience and grow further in my practice. That is simply the nature of yoga - you never stop learning; evolving and transforming - exploring and experiencing a range of yoga practices, styles and teachings that inspire the classes I share with others. I believe in tailoring classes to meet the needs of groups or individuals, making classes fun, unique and student centred.
There have been some wonderful opportunities open up for me to share yoga with many different groups, in many different settings - with Women's and Young Mum's groups, and Caregivers. With school students and their teachers, youth program participants, health care professionals, families and corporate groups - in parks, on beaches, in private homes, workplaces and community halls. I have treasured every step, every experience, and every person I have come into contact with on this very inspiring journey.
Encounter Yoga is now based in a small, boutique studio within my own home - catering for intimate groups of up to 8 people. I am a registered Yoga Australia level 2 (500 hour) Yoga Teacher.
I look forward to sharing the joys of yoga with you soon,
