About Encounter Yoga
Encounter Yoga is based on the tradition of Hatha Yoga and takes an integrated, breath centred approach.
To share the practices of yoga that encourage health and well being, personal transformation and growth; enabling a better connection to our community beyond the practice space – that benefits all the people that we encounter.
Teacher Background - Anita Grantham
I went to my first yoga classes in the early 80’s, and after drifting away for a few years to raise my family, work and study. I eventually returned to yoga with a more whole hearted commitment some 16 years ago. Yoga has become my lifestyle - a way of being, seeing and moving in the world. Yoga has been a gift and blessing, as I have witnessed the immense benefits of its practices, on every level - particularly in times of life's big challenges, such dealing with stress, illness and grief and loss.
I enjoyed the benefits of yoga so much, I wanted to learn more, so in 2009/10 I studied with Venkatesa Integral Yoga Academy of Australasia, obtaining a Full Sadhana Yoga Teaching Diploma (500 hours), and began sharing yoga with others in 2011 - and haven't looked back!
Qualifying as a Thai Yoga Massage therapist in 2016, I now offer this wonderfully complementary practice to yoga, that is a beautifully, nourishing and meditative experience - for both the giver and receiver, with enormous health and wellness benefits.
In 2017 I studied to become a pre and post-natal yoga teacher - enabling me to share yoga with mums-to-be during that very special, nurturing time of pregnancy and early motherhood - making yoga more accessible and safe for those who benefit most from it.
As a yoga teacher I endeavour to evolve and grow. That is simply the nature of yoga - you never stop learning; evolving and transforming - exploring and experiencing a range of yoga practices, styles and teachings that inspire the classes I share with others.
I believe in tailoring classes to meet the needs of groups or individuals, making classes fun, unique and student centred.
There have been some wonderful opportunities open up for me to share yoga with many different groups, in many different settings - with Women's and Young Mum's groups, and Caregivers. With school students and their teachers, youth program participants, health care professionals, families and corporate groups - in parks, on beaches, in private homes, workplaces and community halls. I have treasured every step of the way, every experience, and every person I have come into contact with on this very inspiring journey.
Encounter Yoga is now based in a small, boutique studio within my own home - catering for intimate groups of up to 8 people. I am a registered Yoga Australia level 2 (500 hour) Yoga Teacher.
I look forward to sharing the joys of yoga with you soon,
